Joji Sawada has been involved in a wide range of music productions, including films, animations, and album productions, with an expression that is not limited to any genre. He has been a member of the Brazilian music chamber music trio "Choro Club" for over 30 years.
In addition to composing commissioned chamber music for contemporary music and
Japanese instruments, Sawada has performed with singers and produced albums for
various artists such as EPO, Sizzle Ohtaka, Makoto Kawamoto, Miyuki Hatakeyama, Vinicius Cantuaria, Joyce Moreno, Hiromi Ota, and many others.
Sawada has also produced music for jimama and Nao Matsushita. He has also worked as a producer for jimama and Nao Matsushita.
As a solo musician, Sawada has participated in many groups such as the "Nowhere Chamber Ensemble" with the composer Mina Kubota, "Closeness Ensemble of Kyoto" with Masakatsu Takagi, and a few other musicians. To revisit Jazz music, he also formed the "Joji Sawada Quartet".
In addition to bass, Sawada plays a wide range of instruments. He plays almost all stringed instruments including the guitar and the piano.
In 2020, Sawada launched a new label named “Unknown Silence”. As of May 2022, 11 titles have been released from this label. The first release was the Baschet sound sculpture from the Japan World Exposition in Osaka in 1970, which inspired Sawada to enter the world of music. Since the label’s creation, Sawada has been battling illness but continues to be deeply involved with the label not only as a musician but also as a producer, director, and designer. The “Unknown Silence” continues to create projects that clarify the ideal label that Sawada has imagined both as a musician and as a label owner.
